Baby bumps are seriously miraculous. A mother expecting a child is a beautiful thing and it is a true privilege to capture this special moment in a family’s life. Anticipation. Joy. Glow.
This family just happens to be my brother, his wife and their son. You might recognize them from their last maternity shoot or even their one year anniversary photos. They are naturally photogenic and cute as a button! I might be partial, but their love for one another shines through in every image. And could my nephew be any cuter?
They have chosen not to find out the gender of the baby, which adds another layer of fun to this pregnancy. You will have to wait to find out if their little bun will be wearing pink or blue.
The new year began with a shoot with Ben and Drew, a couple who are expecting their first in March. It was a beautiful January afternoon when we did their shoot at Circle B Bar Reserve. Both Ben and Drew are runners and they showed me along some of the paths they enjoyed using. The light was beautiful and complimented the adorable couple and their obvious love for each other and their little one-to-come.

Almost a year ago I had the opportunity to photograph this lovely couple at their wedding. (To view their wedding images, click here and here.) A couple of months later, they contacted me with the joyful news that they were expecting their first child and would love for me to take their maternity and newborn pictures. It is so exciting to watch my clients grow and their families expand. Thank you, “N” family for allowing me photograph the journey of your life! If you would like to see more images from their maternity shoot, head over to here.
Here are my three personal favorite images from their shoot. I’m a sucker for black and whites and an adorable pregnant gal. Isn’t she just glowing?
This weekend I had the privileged of photographing two different families. First, I met Jennifer, who won the Summer Fun Photo Contest last month. We all met at the beautiful and historic Bok Tower Gardens to photograph their first outdoor, natural light portrait session. Up until Saturday, they had always done studio pictures. Besides the mosquitoes, we had a wonderful time exploring the gardens with little three year old “H.” Here is their sneak peek.
Later that same day I met a couple who are expecting their first child for a maternity session. I had the opportunity to be the second shooter at their later last year and they contacted me as soon as they found out they were expecting to set up their appointment for their maternity shoot. Tessa wanted a fun feel as she and Andrew explored the playground equipment together. It was fun to photograph in a new location, even though I am there all the time with my 3 and 1 year old kids. It was a first to photograph there for me. Here is their sneak peek.
I have had the opportunity to photograph the “A” family several times. Now that number 3 is on the way, they asked me to come capture this time with my new portable studio. Here are a couple of images from our session several Saturdays ago.
What a busy weekend of photog work!
On Friday night, I photographed a middle school dance. A first for me and I LOVED IT!!! I should have been an anthropologist. I enjoyed watching the kids interact with each other, the teachers and even me. It was an absolute blast and I would it do it again in a heart beat! Unfortunately, I can not share any photos with you to preserve the privacy of the students, but trust me when I say that they are super cute!
On Saturday afternoon, I brought my brand new portable light kit to a faithful client of mine that you might recognize from the this shoot and their Christmas card photo. Number three is on the way and will be here in about 8 weeks. We photographed some traditional poses indoors and then Alisa and I headed outside to capture her in their backyard. Alisa looks beautiful!
Sunday evening I had the privilege of photographing a high school graduation party like no other! Their were five seniors from the same school and they invited all of their family and friends to come celebrate with an open house for several hours. After that, a DJ came to the party and it became a dance just for the graduates and their friends. This picture is of one of the dads who enjoyed the broken pinata as a hat!
This afternoon I had fun tromping around Carter Road Park with a theatre friend of mine and her beautiful family. This is a sweet moment captured as they watched a baby alligator swim in the water.
Did I mention that I love my job?
I have just used up my last business cards this month and am ready to go a little fancier. This what what my old business card looked like:
This is fine. Clean. Professional. Informational. But I want my business card to show my work. If my images are already on the card, that allows people who see them without taking the extra step of going to my website. Hopefully this will leave them wanting to see more images and they will hop right on the computer and see more! So, here is the front of my new, improved business card:
And here is the back:
I still need to make some more promotional pamphlets and fliers, but this is a good start. One day I hope my business will be large enough to hire a professional to design all of my business needs. Until then, I have me and my husband. We make a pretty good design team and that makes it all worth it!
